Marius, a few questions.
Where in SA do you live?
Is there any existing structure you will use as wall?
What side of your house will it be?

In order for me be specific it is important to know more detail, otherwise I have toprovide for all the alternatives.

Your other option is to Google your question.

I need information on what to use and how to go about building a hothouse Huh. I have a space available of +- 2.5 m X 3 m where I would like to build a hothouse for my orchids. What materials would I need to use and what features would you suggest I add?

Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Faan,
Preferably hybrids with full flowers but , as I am starting anew , will consider any that might be available.
Thanks
Bennie

Now I remember why I stopped growing orchids years ago. Getting advice from the established growers used to be like tapping blood from a stone. It also was very difficult to find sellers. It would seem as all this is still true. Nevertheless, I am starting my collection again as I love the plants. Anybody out there willing to sell me their excess Cymb. backbulbs and /or Paph. plants?
Abab Hi,
I would definitely not use infrared as you would end up with 220v in a humid atmosphere. I would suggest standard heating cables ( reduced to 12v) but lets hear from the experts,

Perhaps in the end it is more practical to select cooler growing plants as heating does become a very expensive commodity.
If you live in a frost free area heating is not that critical.
However if you grow Phals you have to try and keep the temperature above a minimum of 15C, Cym again can tolerate much more cold.
